WEST MIDLANDS INTERCHANGE: A proposal for a New Strategic Rail Freight Hub at Gailey taking out 700 acres of the Green Belt

Four Ashes Limited (FAL) is consulting on proposals for a new Strategic Rail Freight Interchange near to Junction 12 of the M6 at Four Ashes.  The feedback form is part of the first stage of consultation, which ran until Sunday July 24.  More information about the proposals is available on line at the project website, at public exhibitions during the consultation period, by post – FAL will send out a copy of the Consultation Overview Document free of charge upon request, or at local information points.  These are Brewood Library, Penkridge Library and South Staffordshire Council Offices at Codsall.  Feedback can be sent via the online feedback form, by e-mail via  or by posting the form to the freepost address FREEPOST WMI.  There is also a Freephone number for information 0800 377 7345.  During Stage 1 of the consultation FAL would like to hear about local information, issues and concerns and opinions on the layout options for the site.

There was a very well attended public exhibition on the West Midlands Interchange  at The Haling Dene Centre recently.
Let the Parish Council have your views as they will be officially commenting if and when an application is submitted
to the Planning Authority.  The proposals are immense and will take out 700 acres of Green Belt in our Parish of Penkridge (in the Gailey Ward).  Other Parish Councils and communities around the proposed site are very concerned and an Action Group has been formed to gather information and prepare a response from the communites affected.

In addition there are great fears that the development would exacerbate the already serious problem of large numbers of heavy Goods Vehicles travelling through the centre of our Community of Penkridge.
Staffordshire County Council's response to this Stage 1 Consultation on this proposal can be found

29 Templars Way
ST19 5HR
26th September 2018

Dear Friends.

Thank you so much for the support and sponsorship given to me before and during this year’s Macmillan Trail, walking the 186 mile Shropshire Way

I was hoping for much better weather conditions than the three previous years and for an enjoyable stroll over the Shropshire Hills, but alas it was not to be.

It was quite a shock to find Footpaths from just outside Shrewsbury to Craven Arms totally overgrown, making progress quite slow, with many falls along the way, bruising ribs and shoulder before reaching Montford Bridge.
Walking was even more difficult due to temperatures reaching 33 degrees contributing to making this the most challenging Trail I have endured, taking at times 9 hours to cover 12/14 miles.

I am very grateful for the kindness shown to me from being given a cup of Tea, when entering Stanton Hine upon the Heath, covered in Rape seed, with my Top covered in red spots (blood) from being attacked by Horseflies, ride in a Tractor, and delivered by a Parcel Force Van into Bishops Castle. When almost knocked down on the narrow Churchtown road.

The pain and injuries have disappeared, but the memories of those acts of kindness, will remain

The total raised £1,510.20. + £263 gift aid = £1,773.20 (£126.00 collected en route)
Your money will go directly to people and their families living with Cancer

People of Penkridge, FOUR YEARS OF MISERY has just started
Highways England are revamping the motorway between Junctions 13 for Stafford and Junction 15 for Stoke.

There will be reduced speeds while they upgrade to a "smart" motorway which will affect traffic for miles either side of the work.
During the work, a lane will be closed as work progresses between 10pm and 6am Monday to Thursday, from 10pm on Fridays to 8am Saturdays, and from 10pm on Saturdays to 10am Sundays.
There will also be closures from 10pm Sundays to 5.30am Mondays.
And a 24 hour closure will also be required at some stage.
